When a job opportunity arose for my husband in North Georgia, my immediate thought was “Georgia, why would anyone want to move to Georgia?” After much discussion, Steve accepted a job at beautiful Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa in Young Harris, Georgia. Yes, Georgia of all places is where we ended up. Deceived by many years of not thinking much of Georgia as a state, having only driven through it and creating preconceived notions about its people, I now feel very different about the state in which I live.
Upon my first glance at the many mountain ranges while we were out exploring for somewhere to live, I was breathless. Could it be that paradise can exist somewhere other than southwest Florida? The answer is most definitely yes! The North Georgia Mountains consist of small towns that bring you back to a simpler time. While in town you say “hello” and experience community fellowship with people you hardly know. I felt as if I was catapulted back twenty years. Life is less “busy” in the mountains. You take time for nature, camping, and hiking the Appalachian Trail. There are beautiful backdrops everywhere you look. While traveling on a mountain road you can see deer at any given moment. Black bear can be seen in their natural environment. A lake with a mountain range in the background has the ability to hypnotize anyone into a state of tranquility. Fall is my favorite season in the mountains. The colors explode everywhere like fireworks in the evening sky. There is white water rafting on the Nantahala. Motorcyclists will always find a challenge or rush winding through the North Georgia Mountains. Whether you are looking for peace and quiet or excitement, the North Georgia Mountains have the ability to allure your family into a state of bliss.
The lifestyle of mountain living requires little to no effort to enjoy. It has transformed me into someone I did not know I was. Mountain living has taken me from a stressed out over worked individual to one that now enjoys watching deer pass through her yard with the excitement of a child on the night before christmas. Always on the go and living a fast paced life was all I knew. That was how I lived. Then came the mountains. Paradise comes in many different packages and the North Georgia mountains carry with it the ability to change and transform a person and their views of what paradise really is, its not just a lifestyle but a place to call home.
I can now enjoy and appreciate the sounds of nature and a hammock chair on the porch!
